Nino Acosta, originally from Dominican Republic, residing in Calgary, Canada, is a well known Bachatero in North America. Nino has taught many Bachata workshops at national events and has been one of the pioneers of the Bachata movement just when the first Bachata Festival in the USA started to happened.
Nino Acosta is the Director and owner of the Latin Corner Dance Studio. Nino has been dancing since age three in his native home of the Dominican Republic and studied Afro-Cuban Folklore there. He is the son of a Cuban professional dancer and a Dominican singer.
In 1992 Nino won his second Salsa Championship and moved to Canada to study International Business at McGill University where he founded The McGill’s Salsa Club. After completing his degree, Nino moved to Calgary in 1996 and founded the Latin Corner Dance Studio, introducing L.A. and New York style salsa to the city. He established Calgary s first performing salsa group, which was formed mainly for charitable purposes. He represented Canada in Los Angeles at the Salsa World Congress 2000. Nino and his team of dancers have trained numerous actors and dancers at his Latin Corner Dance Studio. In 2006 Nino Acosta created a new way of training soccer player with a dance footwork that he created and made the front page of Calgary Herald and the World News with his sensational Salsa Soccer (title of article: “Salsa like Ronaldo”), giving him and his dance studio a worldwide recognition.
Nino developed in 2003 a fantastic and fun form of exercise called Ritmos Latinos, which integrates all types of Latin dance styles into an excellent cardio-workout. He created Children’s Salsa Soccer and runs summer camps for kids across North America. He produced in 2001 Canada’s first instructional video to include more than one dance style: Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia and Bachata. He also wrote and directed Calgary‘ s first Latino play, which was performed in 2004. He has appeared in commercials and movies and has performed in Dubai, Madrid, Bologna, Frankfurt and several resort areas in Mexico. In 2006 Nino opened a dance studio in Dubai and imports exotic dancewear and his own brand of professional-style dance shoes from Dubai and Europe. Nino also created the footwork essentials for Bachata Cibao style and produced and directed the documentary “The Bachata Chronicles” in 2008.
